Mallorca Gaza protest calls for global port strike
In Palma, Mallorca, protesters urge dockworkers to join an international strike over Gaza on Friday, 30 October. Organisers say 90 ports in nine countries will take part. At Plaza de España, demonstrators call for weapons to be kept out of ports.
The rally is part of an action by the Global Sumud Movement. Mallorca per Palestina and other members of civil society join the protest in support of the dockworkers.
Protesters say ports should not be used to supply weapons or support the logistics of war. They also call for sanctions against Israel. Organisers say violations against Palestinians continue despite the ceasefire.
A report published on 26 October by the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel concluded that Israeli authorities and forces are committing “genocidal acts” in Gaza after the ceasefire agreement. For the protesters in Palma, the demand is that no maritime infrastructure helps supply weapons or support the logistics of war and genocide.
