Manacor, Mallorca: 122 women have received help over gender-based violence in 2026, including 64 new cases. The town council released the figures on Tuesday, 27 October, at a local meeting on tackling violence against women. The women’s average age was 38, and the municipal service also followed up with 157 children and teenagers linked to them.

Three in four lack strong support

Three in four women using the service have a weak support network or none at all. Insecure work and difficulty finding stable housing are further barriers to leaving violence, the council says. Recovery can take a long time, making continued support important.

Three quarters of new users were referred by other services. The council says that shows why those services need to work together.

Calls, schools and next steps

A separate 24-hour specialist service recorded 308 calls between October 2025 and September 2026. It also provided support in person on 43 occasions linked to gender-based violence cases. A leaflet listing help for victims is available in Catalan, Spanish and Arabic.

Schools held 140 activities on equality, shared education and preventing violence against women during the 2025–2026 school year. Proposals for the next steps include more work to prevent sexual violence in leisure spaces, stronger equality education and a review of how children and teenagers receive support.
