Ibiza and Formentera: 339 geriatric admissions
Ibiza and Formentera, in the Balearic Islands, record 339 geriatric hospital admissions from January to October 2026 — more than in the whole of 2025. The Ibiza and Formentera Health Area puts the increase at 33.4%, compared with 254 admissions last year. It released the figures on 5 November.
Patients stayed an average of 13.83 days, down from 14.5 days in 2025. An internal medicine doctor has joined the health area to improve care for older patients admitted to acute hospital wards. The geriatric service has had four geriatricians since July 2025.
The new doctor is one of 11 specialists trained in the area who have joined its public health service in 2026. The others are eight family and community medicine specialists, a hospital pharmacist and an intensive care specialist. The health area says 91.6% of the medical and pharmacy specialists trained there have chosen to continue working in public healthcare on Ibiza and Formentera.
