Mallorca: Woman held over hugs and thefts in Palma
Mallorca: a man says three gold chains worth €2,000 disappeared after a woman hugged him in Palma. Two other older men have reported encounters with a woman in the city. The Spanish National Police arrested a suspect on Wednesday and are investigating two suspected thefts and a robbery involving violence.
Gold chains and a missing bag
The first man said a young woman approached him as he walked through Coll d'en Rabassa in Palma, Mallorca. She struck up a conversation, hugged him and tried to kiss him. He did not notice the chains were gone until he got home.
Another man said a woman asked him for money in El Molinar, Palma. He refused, but she hugged him before leaving. He then found his shoulder bag missing, along with his wallet, about €400 and documents. Police call this approach hurto amoroso — theft carried out by feigning affection.
An offer of help ends in a shove
In late October, a man in his 80s reported that a young woman had offered to help him cross a street in El Molinar. She took his arm, then tried to remove €50 from his pocket, he said. When he pulled away, she shoved him hard and ran off.
Police identified the suspect after investigating the reports. A court has ordered her to stay away from the area where she allegedly acted.
