Ibiza gold chain robbery: Officer hurt making arrest
A man grabs a woman by the neck in Eivissa, Ibiza, and tears away her gold chain: an off-duty police officer chases him and makes an arrest. The officer is injured in the struggle, and a judge has since ordered the suspect held in prison. Spain’s National Police reported the case on 27 October 2026.
Before the attack, the officer had noticed the man following the woman. Police said he matched the description of someone suspected of similar robberies over several months. The officer got out of his car and called for uniformed colleagues to check the man’s identity. Then he heard the woman scream. The man ran, but the officer caught him after a few metres.
A specialist violent crime unit from the local judicial police later searched the suspect’s home. Officers found clothes and shoes they said had been used in robberies, along with two masks and a wig they believe may have been intended for future offences. The suspect appeared before a judge late last week, and the judge ordered him held in prison.
