Menorca GP appointments: MP claims 19-working-day wait
In Es Castell, Menorca, getting a GP appointment takes 19 working days, Socialist MP Carol Marqués claims. She raises the figure in the Balearic Parliament on Tuesday, 13 October, after checking appointment waits herself. Health minister Manuela García disputes her criticism.
Marqués puts the wait elsewhere on Menorca at 14 working days in Alaior, ten in Maó and Ciutadella, and eight in Sant Lluís. She challenges García over a figure the minister gave on 3 March: 2.96 working days. Either that figure was wrong or the government has let waits climb, Marqués argues.
García says the government has added staff and services to Menorca’s public health system and invested in facilities. She points to a day hospital, an allergy service and an ambulance available around the clock throughout the year in Es Mercadal. García acknowledges that not everything is perfect, but accuses the PSIB of taking the easy route with its criticism.
