Maó Gràcia festival: nine arrests and drugs seized

Police arrested nine people and seized five grams of ‘speed’ during the Gràcia festivities in Maó, Menorca, which ran from 31 August to 9 September. The arrests included suspected drug dealing, domestic abuse, assault and threats. Spain’s National Police said it had reinforced the operation with uniformed and plain-clothes officers.

One person was held on an outstanding court warrant. The other allegations also included damage and theft.

Officers carried out access checks, identified people and vehicles, and dealt with emergencies during the festivities. They also issued 107 reports recommending fines for drug use or possession, along with six over weapon possession, four for disrespecting officers and two for disobedience.

Police attended about ten emergencies. A man who fainted during the Jaleo was taken to hospital. Officers also treated a woman after she fell and suffered a bleeding nose injury, and a man with a bleeding head wound.

In ses Voltes, police found an intoxicated minor. Aerial resources were also used during the festivities to ensure there were no unauthorised flights.
