101 Mallorca schools join green scheme, awards next
Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, has 101 schools taking part in an environmental education programme, with a recognition ceremony set for 25 November. On 6 November, 37 schools from Ibiza and Formentera receive awards or participation certificates at the University of the Balearic Islands in Eivissa, Ibiza. The Balearic government’s agriculture and education departments announced the recognitions.
Twelve schools on Ibiza and one on Formentera receive the Eco-Environmental School award. It recognises schools that have met the goals of their environmental projects for two consecutive school years. Another 22 schools on Ibiza and two on Formentera receive certificates for their work during the school year.
The programme helps schools and secondary schools build environmental projects into their teaching and day-to-day work. Annual plans give them goals they can check against their results. Across the Balearic Islands, 159 schools took part in this edition. Menorca’s recognition ceremony follows on 13 November, before Mallorca’s on 25 November.
