HBX Group names co-founder Carlos Muñoz its next CEO
HBX Group International names co-founder Carlos Muñoz as its next chief executive, with the change taking effect on 1 December. The appointment was announced in Madrid on 6 November, a day after the board approved it. Finance chief Brendan Brennan remains in temporary charge following the retirement of Nicolas Huss on 30 September.
A familiar face takes charge
Muñoz has worked in the travel industry for more than 26 years. At HBX Group, he has held senior jobs including deputy chief executive, commercial director, operations director and managing director.
He joined the board as a non-executive director on 12 February. When he becomes chief executive, he will stay on the board as an executive director.
AI shapes the next step
The company said in a filing with Spain’s National Securities Market Commission that the appointment followed an extensive search led by the board. Chair James Bilefield pointed to Muñoz’s knowledge of the company, its teams and its markets. He said Muñoz’s ability to bring together technology, data and business strategy would matter as artificial intelligence opened up opportunities in travel.
Muñoz said he wants to draw on the group’s technology, data and staff to put its strategy into action faster, find new growth and create long-term value for its business partners and shareholders.
