Mallorca MP flags Spanish-only health app records

Mallorca’s Espai Salut health app faces a row over patient documents that an MP says are available only in Spanish. In parliament in Palma, Mallorca, on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, MÉS per Mallorca’s Maria Ramon accuses the health department of failing to protect patients’ language rights. Health minister Manuela García says the app itself works in four languages and opens in the language set on the user’s phone.

Ramon says medical and laboratory reports, medication sheets, the dispensing calendar and digital patient records are among the documents available only in Spanish, rather than Catalan. García says documents appear in the language in which they were written. For Ramon, being able to understand health information in one’s own language is a patient right that the app does not fully uphold.

The dispute also reaches back to staffing rules. Ramon points to the removal of the Catalan-language requirement for healthcare professionals three years ago. García counters that the Pacte had already eased requirements in 2023 to help recruit staff.
