Mallorca: 16 call-outs as heavy rain warning stays

Flooded buildings, fallen trees and two fires have triggered 16 emergency call-outs on Mallorca since Wednesday midday. The incidents were dealt with in Palma, Binissalem and Inca before 08.00 on Thursday, the Directorate-General for Emergencies said. Across the islands, the storm episode has produced 19 incidents.

Yellow warning remains on Mallorca

The State Meteorological Agency, Aemet, has kept a yellow heavy-rain warning in place for Mallorca on Thursday, with up to 20 litres per square metre forecast. It says extra caution is needed from midday, while temperatures across the islands are expected to range from 26 to 29 degrees.

A yellow coastal warning also remains active for Mallorca and Menorca. Menorca’s rain and storm warning has been lifted.

Travel warning as rain hits the roads

Emergency crews have also dealt with flooding in businesses and other buildings, liquid hazards on roads, discharges and leaks, and falling parts from urban structures. One further incident was attended in Eivissa.

The Pitiusas are under an orange rain warning, with up to 50 litres per square metre possible within an hour. Emergencies has urged people to avoid unnecessary journeys.
