Mallorca rain alert: up to 30 l/m2 in an hour
Southern Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, could get up to 30 l/m2 of rain in an hour from 14.00 on Thursday, 1 October. An orange warning is in force there until 21.00. Aurelio Soto, head of emergency services for the Balearic Islands government, urged people to take care as rain and storms threaten Mallorca, Eivissa and Formentera.
The rest of Mallorca has a yellow warning until 21.00, apart from the eastern Llevant area. Menorca also has a yellow warning. Another spell of rain could reach Eivissa and Formentera around midnight, bringing 40 l/m2.
On Friday, Eivissa and Formentera face an orange warning for rain and storms throughout the day. Mallorca has a yellow warning from 10.00 to 20.00. The orange warning on Eivissa and Formentera continues until 15.00 on Saturday. Mallorca has a warning from 12.00 to 20.00 that day, while Menorca has a yellow warning for the same hours.
Soto warned that one part of an island could be sunny while another gets heavy rain. He asked people to check official updates, avoid unnecessary journeys and not cross places that could flood. Emergency services and Spain’s State Meteorological Agency will keep watch, and the Meteobal weather-warning committee will review the situation on Friday.
