Mallorca heavy rain: university halts outdoor activities

Mallorca’s university halts outdoor activities, field trips and activities at sea from 13:00 on Wednesday as heavy rain threatens the south of the island. The University of the Balearic Islands has also called off the opening event of a series at the Aula de Natura, due at 16:00.

The State Meteorological Agency, Aemet, has issued an orange warning — meaning significant danger — for southern Mallorca on Wednesday, 16 September. It says up to 30 litres of rain per square metre could fall in an hour, with Llucmajor and Campos most likely to see those totals.

The warning runs from 13:00 until 21:00. The university said the alert was behind its decision to suspend all planned outdoor activities from the afternoon.
