Mallorca orange alert: heavy rain and storms due
Mallorca faces an orange alert for heavy rain on Wednesday, with strong to very strong showers and thunderstorms forecast for the afternoon. Spain’s State Meteorological Agency, Aemet, says the storms could bring significant rainfall. Very strong wind gusts are also possible.
Cold air higher in the atmosphere and a surface weather front are expected to bring unstable conditions across the eastern third of mainland Spain. As clouds build through the afternoon, Aemet expects heavy showers and thunderstorms in Mallorca as well as Catalonia, the Valencian Community, Teruel, eastern Castilla-La Mancha and the Betic mountain ranges.
The Balearic Islands are one of four regions on orange alert, alongside Aragon, Catalonia and the Valencian Community. Mallorca’s alert is for rain; Castellón and Valencia are also on orange alert for thunderstorms.
Maximum temperatures are set to fall across almost all of Spain. In the Balearic Islands, minimum temperatures will stay much the same or edge up slightly. Winds in the Mediterranean will be light and easterly.
