Heavy rain halts planned surgery at Formentera hospital
Two planned operations are off at Formentera Hospital: heavy rain on Monday, 19 October, has damaged the area outside its surgical unit. Emergency operations are still going ahead, and the operating theatre itself is undamaged, according to the Eivissa and Formentera Health Area.
Urgent care continues
The hospital will continue to handle urgent births. Planned maternity care will move to the delivery unit at Can Misses Hospital while recovery work continues.
The two general and digestive surgery operations due on Monday were the only ones scheduled for this week. Six operations planned for next week will be given new appointments once normal service resumes.
Cleaning before surgery restarts
The Eivissa and Formentera Health Area is working with the Preventive Medicine Service at Son Espases University Hospital. The service has recommended a thorough cleaning of the affected area, followed by hygiene treatment.
Staff will then take samples to check the area’s condition. The results will determine whether any further steps are needed before planned surgery resumes.
