Hidden sildenafil: Spain pulls four ‘natural’ products
Spain is pulling four products sold as natural from the market on 2 October 2026: tests have found sildenafil in all of them, with no mention of the drug on their labels. The Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products has announced a halt to sales and a withdrawal after the Civil Guard in Toledo alerted it to the products. They are Etumax Royal Honey, Miel Soudan VIP, Epimedyumlu Macum and Organic Honey.
Sildenafil is used to treat impaired erectile function. The agency’s laboratory found enough of it in each product to have a drug effect, making the products medicines under Spanish law. Etumax Royal Honey also contains tadalafil, another drug used to treat impaired erectile function. Organic Honey also contains paracetamol.
The agency warns that taking the products could cause serious harm. Sildenafil and tadalafil can interact with other medicines and must not be used by people with certain conditions, including some heart and circulatory problems. Possible effects include heart attack, abnormal heart rhythm, stroke and sudden cardiac death. The agency says interactions have been seen more often in people with cardiovascular risk factors.
