Mallorca puts €2.5 million into 35 historic mills
On the island of Mallorca, the council is putting €2.5 million towards restoring 35 historic mills across 19 municipalities. The work will repair parts of the buildings and their old machinery. The Consell de Mallorca announced the grants on Monday, 5 October 2026.
The list covers 22 mills used to draw water, 12 flour mills and one water-powered mill. It includes the water-powered mill at Cala Banyalbufar, the d'en Soler mill in Puigpunyent and the d'en Suau mill in Llubí. The Can Seda mill in Lloseta and the dels Germans mill in Son Servera are also among the projects. Repairs must meet heritage conservation rules and use traditional materials and techniques.
The money comes from the sustainable tourism tax, known as the ITS. Grants will cover 75% of each project's cost, with owners paying the remaining 25%. Around €838,000 in private investment will bring the total cost to €3.35 million.
Of the 35 projects, 25 are run by individuals or private organisations, five by companies and five by local councils. The privately owned Can Moreu mill will receive €150,000 for its restoration. The grants are due to be paid in 2026 and 2027.
