Balearic holiday apartments gain guests, lose nights

Across the Balearic Islands, including Mallorca, holiday apartments draw 336,258 guests in August, up 9% on a year earlier. But they record 1.61 million overnight stays, down 3.59%. Spain’s National Statistics Institute published the figures on Thursday, 1 October.

Of the apartment guests, 276,174 were international travellers and 60,084 were domestic travellers. They stayed an average of 4.80 days. The institute estimates that 20,786 apartments were open across the islands, with room for 67,665 people. Occupancy stood at 86.74%, or 86.66% at weekends.

Rural accommodation also drew guests in August: 82,146 across the Balearics, including 68,498 international and 13,648 domestic travellers. They recorded 291,846 overnight stays and stayed an average of 3.55 days.
