Spain targets 8,318 holiday rental ads for removal

8,318 holiday rental ads across Spain face removal: two platforms are offering bookings shorter than the new minimum for seasonal lets. On 23 October 2026, Spain’s Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and the 2030 Agenda tells the platforms to take the ads down. Most of the listings identified are in the Madrid region.

Why the ads are under scrutiny

The listings advertise tourist accommodation as seasonal lets but allow bookings of less than 31 days. A legal change approved on 6 October 2026 set 31 days as the minimum for that type of rental contract. Spain’s consumer protection authority says the ads may be misleading.

Of the 8,318 listings, 6,772 are in the Madrid region, including 6,523 in Madrid city. The ministry gives no figure for Mallorca.

What happens if the ads stay online

The authority has formally notified both platforms to remove the listings. If they leave the ads up or fail to block access, it could open proceedings against them.

The ministry has taken action over rental listings before. It fined Airbnb €64 million in a case that led to more than 65,000 ads being removed. Booking removed more than 4,000 ads after an official request.
