Eivissa joins 15 heritage cities at Holy Week congress

Eivissa, Ibiza, will join 15 Spanish World Heritage cities in Alcalá de Henares from 23 to 25 October for a congress on Holy Week traditions.

Representatives of public institutions, religious brotherhoods and specialists from the participating cities will gather for the fourth National Congress of Holy Week and World Heritage Cities. The event is organised by the Spanish Association of Holy Week in World Heritage Cities.

Over three days, the programme will look at the artistic and historical value of the celebrations, staged in UNESCO-recognised streets, squares and churches. It will also focus on faith, religious imagery, music and the shared identity of the brotherhoods, which organisers say is passed down through generations.

Alcalá de Henares mayor Judith Piquet said the congress would allow cities to share experience, strengthen cooperation and support the conservation and promotion of their traditions.

The programme includes talks, institutional meetings, cultural visits and events linked to Holy Week and Alcalá de Henares heritage. Journalist Fernando Valmaseda will lead the sessions. Registration is open through the congress’s official website.
