Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

In Palma, Mallorca, prosecutors seek jail for a man accused of kicking another man to the ground in a homophobic street attack in March 2025. A pre-trial hearing takes place before the Second Section of the Provincial Court at 13.00 on Thursday, 29 October.

The man was walking with a woman friend when the accused and a group of other young people, some of them minors, began insulting him, according to the prosecution’s case. They mocked his Hello Kitty T-shirt and used homophobic slurs. Prosecutors say he tried to avoid a confrontation, but the accused kicked him to the ground, then hit and stamped on him while continuing the abuse.

Prosecutors say the accused acted solely to humiliate the man because of his sexual orientation. They seek one year and two months in prison for a hate crime, or, alternatively, one year and six months for an offence against moral integrity. They also want him to pay €2,700 for physical and emotional harm.
