Mallorca’s doctors could use patient data to act sooner: 240 health professionals meet at Son Llàtzer University Hospital in Palma, Mallorca, on Thursday, 8 October, to examine how AI and up-to-date information might help in patient care. The Balearic Health Service organised the meeting, bringing together professionals from the islands and other parts of Spain.

Getting AI beyond the pilot stage

The first discussion looked at what it would take to move AI from trial projects into everyday care. Participants considered where it would help, what evidence would be needed before introducing it, and how to check that it keeps working safely. They also discussed the quality of the data and the training staff would need.

Information while there is time to act

A second discussion turned to Tramundata, a project intended to make patient information available in real time. An admission, a discharge or a lab result could then inform a decision while there is still time to act. Participants also considered which alerts should take priority and how information from different systems could work together.

What lab results could do next

The final discussion focused on digital labs and tools that support clinical decisions. Participants explored how lab data could aid research and help clinicians make decisions. They also examined whether AI could help produce quicker, more precise diagnoses — and the obstacles to using it in clinical care.
