Mallorca hospital lift faults hamper patient transfers

Mallorca’s Son Llàtzer University Hospital in Palma is struggling to move patients between floors and departments: most of its lifts have faults or are out of service, according to the CCOO health workers’ union. On Tuesday, 3 November, the union said the problem had grown considerably worse over the past two weeks. The breakdowns also make staff’s daily work harder, it said.

CCOO says the faults are not new. It points to poor maintenance and the age of many lifts as factors behind the repeated breakdowns.

An outside company maintains the lifts, but its repairs do not appear to last, the union says. In many cases, lifts break down again barely two days after technicians repair them. Replacement parts for the old lifts are also becoming harder to find. CCOO wants a lasting solution rather than more temporary repairs.
