At the Hospital of Formentera, new solar panels over the car park are set to cut the electricity bill by nearly €30,000 a year and cover nearly 20% of the hospital’s power needs. Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro, the regional minister for Business, the Self-Employed and Energy, inaugurated the installation on 5 October 2026. The panels will also shade the car park.

The new panels will generate more than 150 MWh a year, according to the regional department responsible for energy. The hospital’s existing installation produced 55 MWh a year. Together, they will take its solar output above 205 MWh a year, reducing the amount of electricity it needs to buy from the grid.

The power is for the hospital’s own use. The project is part of a Balearic government programme to put solar panels on public buildings and car parks. Other projects include the hospital in Inca, the IB3 headquarters and IES Marratxí.
