Balearic hotels get €366,000 to cut absence
Hotel employers’ groups and unions across the Balearic Islands can apply for a share of €366,000 to fund work on absence, equality and work-life balance. The Balearic Government has approved the scheme for workplace observatories — bodies set up to study conditions in the hotel sector and offer advice and information. Funded work can run from 1 July 2026 to 30 September 2027.
The budget sets aside €274,500 for 2026 and €91,500 for 2027. Every activity paid for under the scheme must take place in the Balearic Islands.
Half for employers, half for unions
Only employer organisations and unions entitled to negotiate the Balearic hotel industry’s collective agreement can apply. Half the money is reserved for employer bodies and half for unions.
Within each half, awards will reflect each organisation’s representation on the agreement’s negotiating committee. No group can receive more than it applied for, and applicants must be up to date with Social Security and tax obligations to the state and the autonomous community.
Focus on equality, flexibility and absence
The equality strand will examine gender equality and opportunities in hotel businesses. It can also fund advice on equality plans, training sessions and workshops.
A second strand will assess workplace policies on balancing work and family life, including information on flexible hours, remote working and special leave. The absence programme will separate justified from unjustified absences, develop ways to reduce them and regularly collect data.
The Ministry of Labour, Public Service and Social Dialogue said the funding puts into action an agreement signed by employers and unions in July 2025. That deal linked better work-life balance with higher productivity and lower absence in the hotel sector.
