More than 1,000 hotel workers are set to join a cancer run in Palma, Mallorca, this Sunday, with their team entries bringing in over 13,000 euros. They come from 30 hotel companies. The Mallorca Hotel Business Federation says this is its third challenge in partnership with the Spanish Association Against Cancer in the Balearic Islands.

Hotel teams add to the total

Meliá has the largest team, with 172 people signed up, followed by RIU with 161. Universal Hotels has 85, BLAU has 82 and Barceló Hotel Group has 70.

Across the first two challenges, 2,443 workers from 36 hotel companies helped raise more than 28,000 euros for cancer research and the fight against cancer. After Sunday's event, the federation expects the three challenges to have involved over 3,400 workers and raised more than 41,000 euros.

Where and when the run starts

The eight-kilometre race starts at 09.30 on Sunday at Avenida Antoni Maura in Palma. Runners complete two laps and finish back on the avenue.

Non-competitive children's races follow. At 11.30, a four-kilometre group walk sets off from Avenida Antoni Maura and finishes there too.
