Mallorca hotel boss calls for illegal tourism checks

Mallorca hotel boss Miquel Miralles takes charge of the Balearic Hotel Chains Association with a call for more checks on illegal activity in tourism. Member companies elected the THB Hotels chief on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, to lead the group until 2030. He replaces Carolina Quetglas, who stays on as second vice-president.

Miralles wants inspections, better coordination and more effective action against illegal activity. He has not singled out a particular type of business. The industry must also face its own impact, he says, while making a stronger case for the jobs, investment and other activity tourism brings. He wants that debate to rely more on evidence and practical proposals.

Nearly all member companies attended the election, according to the Mallorca Hotel Business Federation. Miralles has spent ten years in the association’s leadership. His company, THB Hotels, runs 18 hotels and employs 1,300 people, including 800 in the Balearics.

For now, the tougher checks are a demand from the new president, not an announced change in enforcement. Miralles also wants clearer rules and less bureaucracy to help hotel companies adapt.
