Mallorca’s hotel room cleaners face tough working conditions: a union gathering in Magaluf, Mallorca, puts their jobs before a government minister on Wednesday, 28 October. Spain’s minister for inclusion, social security and migration, Elma Saiz, is due to close the General Workers’ Union (UGT) event from 12.30 at the Hotel Fergus Style Tobagom. Tourism secretary of state Rosario Sánchez and UGT general secretary Pepe Álvarez will join her.

The gathering aims to draw attention to the demands of a job done mostly by women and to seek recognition of its working conditions.

At 17.30, Saiz is due at a meeting organised by the Balearic Socialists (PSIB-PSOE) at the offices of the Workers’ Commissions (CCOO) union. The party says the meeting will look at social advances made by Spain’s government. Iago Negueruela, the Socialists’ leader in Palma, and Rosario Sánchez, the party’s deputy general secretary, are also expected, alongside party members and union representatives.
