Ibiza hotel disco accused of littering beach with plastic
Nearly 500 launches in one season: a hotel disco in Sant Antoni on Ibiza is accused of sending plastic streamers onto s’Arenal beach and into the sea. Environmental group Salvem sa Badia de Portmany says the streamers are fired from cannons and also catch in nearby trees. On 4 November 2026, the group said it had filed complaints with authorities on Ibiza, across the Balearics and at Spanish state level.
The group says the disco launched streamers three times a day over 164 operating days this season, and that the practice dates back to at least 2014. Staff at the venue have said they remove the streamers from trees each day. The group disputes that, saying some hang there for days or weeks before reaching the water.
Salvem sa Badia de Portmany first complained to Sant Antoni council on 7 July and says it has received no reply. Its new complaints, sent to environmental and coastal authorities and the Guardia Civil’s environmental unit, include evidence and photographs. The group wants the authorities to stop the launches from happening again.
