In Magaluf, Mallorca, hotel housekeepers’ demanding work takes centre stage on Wednesday as a union calls for their working conditions to be recognised. Spain’s Minister for Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz, will close the General Union of Workers (UGT) event at Hotel Fergus Style Tobagom from 12.30. Tourism Secretary of State Rosario Sánchez and UGT general secretary Pepe Álvarez will also take part.

The union says hotel housekeeping is a tough job done predominantly by women. Later, at 17.30, Saiz will attend a meeting organised by the Balearic Socialist Party (PSIB-PSOE) at the Workers’ Commissions (CCOO) headquarters in Palma, Mallorca. The party says the meeting will look at social progress made by Spain’s government. Its Palma general secretary, Iago Negueruela, and deputy general secretary, Rosario Sánchez, will attend alongside party members and trade union representatives.
