Mallorca hotel suppliers in six-task hackathon
Hotel suppliers on the island of Mallorca are the focus of one challenge: 150 vocational students from across the Balearic Islands begin work on six company-set problems on Tuesday, 3 November. They are taking part in the third Circular Innovation Hackathon at the Playa Garden Selection Hotel & Spa. The Balearic Ministry of Education and Universities and Impulsa Balears organise the event.
From water leaks to leftover materials
One team challenge is to find ways for Mallorca’s hotel suppliers to adopt circular solutions. Another asks students to spot water leaks and improve how problems are dealt with, so less water is lost. Other companies want ideas for putting surplus building materials and unused installation supplies back to work rather than discarding them.
The remaining tasks cover deliveries of frozen products and a practical cybersecurity problem. Each of the six companies has brought a challenge from its own business. Students must show how their proposals could work and what impact they could have.
Thirty teams face the judges
Five teams will work on each challenge, with help from vocational teachers and professionals. Impulsa Balears says 264 applications came from 37 vocational training centres. The 150 students selected represent 16 fields of training.
On Wednesday, the 30 teams will present their ideas to a jury. The best team for each challenge will receive a winner’s diploma, 1,000 euros and help publicising its solution. Every participant will receive a certificate.
