Mallorca house martins: 236 occupied nests in Inca
Inca, Mallorca, has 236 occupied house martin nests on its buildings: 41 more than the town counted in 2021. Inca Town Council announced the result of its latest census on 6 November 2026. It found 195 occupied nests in 2021 and 190 in 2019.
The birds cluster in two parts of town. The council counted 85 occupied nests on Fray Pere Joan Cerdà street and 44 in Santa Maria la Mayor square. Together, those two places account for more than half the occupied nests found in Inca.
House martins are known locally as cabots. They live in colonies, eat insects and build mud nests on buildings. The council has put up signs at both sites to explain why the nests need protection and encourage people to respect the colonies, especially during breeding season. It says the census will help it track and protect the birds.
