Palma housing camp cleared: PSOE says city had no power

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

Palma, Mallorca: The PSOE accuses the city council of clearing a housing protest camp in Plaza de España without the power to do so. On 5 November, party spokesman Xisco Dalmau says the Local Police cannot take on the National Police’s role. He says the clearance breaches the right to assemble.

Dalmau also attacks the public conduct bylaw approved by the PP and Vox, calling it “persecutory”. He calls mayor Jaime Martínez “authoritarian” and accuses him of imposing his will through police orders.

The Socialists are demanding answers and an explanation for the clearance.
