Evictions and holiday flats: Spain’s housing decree faces a fight in Madrid as Sumar says a deal remains far off. On Monday, 28 September, the governing partner told Europa Press that the draft still leaves key demands unanswered. The government plans to take it to the Council of Ministers on Tuesday.

Sumar wants full protection against eviction, rules for seasonal lets and rooms rented individually, and extensions and renewals of rental contracts. It also wants action against fraud involving holiday flats.

The party says it will keep negotiating through Monday, but will not back a decree it believes falls short of what people need. For now, there is no agreement on the text due before ministers.
