Spain's housing decrees face snap Friday vote
Two new housing decrees face a Friday vote in Madrid, Spain: Congress could overturn one after barely two days in force. The cabinet approved both on Tuesday, 29 September. Parliamentary sources say the urgent sitting is expected to begin at 11am.
The government wants a decision before the ordinary sittings planned for the coming weeks. Congress is rearranging its diary to make room, despite other activities already scheduled. It plans to debate and vote on each decree separately.
The decrees take effect when they appear in Spain’s official gazette, the Boletín Oficial del Estado, following cabinet approval. Congress has 30 days to consider them, but Friday’s votes could keep both in place or repeal either one.
