Spain's housing squeeze takes shine off jobs figures

Madrid, 2 October: Good jobs figures mean less when people struggle to find housing, Spain’s Secretary of State for Labour Joaquín Pérez Rey warns. On Friday, he urges political parties to vote for two royal decrees in the Congress of Deputies.

Presenting September’s unemployment and worker registration figures, Pérez Rey says the vote is crucial for people, especially workers. He points to housing prices, evictions and other property-market issues. Hundreds of thousands of workers are waiting for effective action on Spain’s housing problems, he says, and he asks parties not to abandon them.
