Mallorca housing law plans at risk, Ibiza Socialists warn
Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, could miss out on a state housing law: Ibiza’s Socialists warn that the 29 November general election could threaten the law before it is applied across the islands. The executive of the Socialist Federation of Ibiza (FSE-PSOE) issued the warning after a meeting on 3 November. It says tenants and small property owners could lose protections if the political right repeals the law and measures already passed.
Housing law and the November vote
The party wants the state housing law applied in the Balearic Islands. MP and Congress candidate Milena Herrera warned that repeal would leave the housing market less regulated and with fewer tools to tackle property speculation.
The party leadership also backs the general strike called for 11 November. It says the strike calls for higher wages and action on rising living costs.
Resignation demand in Sant Antoni
The same meeting addressed a dispute in Sant Antoni de Portmany, on Ibiza. The Socialists want councillor Miguel Tur to resign after it emerged that he had applied for a personal loan from a business group.
The party is demanding an explanation and political accountability. It says the Ibiza branch of the People’s Party should intervene if Tur neither resigns nor is removed, arguing that the dispute is damaging the council’s transparency and credibility.
