Spain's housing poll asks about holiday lets and rent

Housing appeared as Spain’s biggest problem in 48.8% of survey responses in May: a new poll now asks people about holiday lets, renting and buying homes. The Centre for Sociological Research (CIS) will release its first results on Thursday. It designed the study with Spain’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda to assess housing measures already adopted.

The questions ask how important housing is compared with other concerns, how easy it is to buy or rent, and which housing policies people prefer. They also cover the growth of holiday lets, the concentration of property ownership and foreign investment in property.

The two bodies agreed the study in August, with a budget of 288,000 euros. Housing has ranked as Spain’s biggest problem in the centre’s regular polls every month since December 2024. May’s 48.8% was the highest share recorded.

This is the centre’s third housing survey of this kind, following editions in October 2014 and April 2018. Thursday’s findings will show how people judge housing policy, but the results have yet to be published.
