Palma housing protest: police stay at Plaza de España
At Plaza de España in Palma, Mallorca, housing protesters plan to stay after about 40 days in camp: police will keep watch. Mayor Jaime Martínez said on Friday, 6 November, that officers would remain at the square to enforce city rules on civic conduct and the use of public space.
Martínez said no one had been evicted from the camp. Protesters say their right to assemble has been breached, but the mayor did not address that claim directly. He said the Government Delegation in the Balearic Islands decides who is authorised to demonstrate or gather.
Martínez also chaired a meeting at the town hall on Friday covering public safety and a review of the tourist season.
