Mallorca housing row: PP brands socialists ‘vulture funds’

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

In Palma, Mallorca, a housing row turns personal on 21 October 2026: People’s Party (PP) spokesman Sebastià Sagreras calls the Balearic socialists (PSIB) “vulture funds”. Speaking in the Balearic parliament’s general policy debate, he claims the party has such figures in its ranks. The clash comes as the two parties argue over access to housing.

Housing blame and promises

Sagreras says the socialists are demanding measures they never took while in government. He argues that eight years of worsening housing conditions cannot be reversed in three and a half years, and calls both the housing problem and the tourism situation an inheritance from 2023.

He defends Balearic president Marga Prohens, saying some of her government’s work will take time to show results. He also attacks Spain’s central government over housing and regional funding.

Formentera seeks a separate count

In the same debate, Formentera deputy Llorenç Córdoba calls for the normal capacity to care for migrant children, and any migration emergency, to be calculated for each island council separately. He says the current calculation uses the Balearic Islands as a whole, although the island councils are responsible for the children’s care. Córdoba asks the Balearic government to take his proposal to Spain’s central government.
