Mallorca unions and housing groups plan to file notice in Palma on Wednesday, 28 October, for a nationwide general strike on 11 November over housing and the cost of living. The unions are STEI, CCOO, UGT, SATI, CGT and CNT. They are working with Sindicat de Llogateres de Mallorca and PAH to submit the notice to the Balearic government’s Department of the Presidency, Government Action Coordination and Local Cooperation.

STEI says the strike calls for decent housing and living conditions for everyone. The groups want to draw attention to the growing difficulty workers face in finding a home and keeping up with rising living costs. They are also calling for wages people can live on.

After filing the notice, representatives plan to explain their reasons for the strike and their demands in the Balearic Islands to the media.
