Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

Mallorca’s general hunting season opens on Monday, 12 October, adding partridges, thrushes, woodcock and huntable waterbirds to the permitted list. The Consell de Mallorca says closing dates vary by species and hunting method. These are in addition to species already allowed during the earlier hunting period.

Different species, different deadlines

Partridges, pheasants, fieldfares, mistle thrushes and huntable waterbirds may be hunted until 31 January. For common thrushes and woodcock, the deadline is 7 February.

Hare hunting with greyhounds or through falconry, and rabbit hunting by any permitted method, ends on 6 December. Rabbit hunting can continue until 27 December with the hunting-ground holder’s express permission.

Partridge hunting with a decoy runs from 27 December to the last Sunday of January. With the holder’s express permission, it can continue until 10 February, with hunting allowed every day of the week. Traditional thrush hunting known as filats a coll also has a 10 February deadline.

Which days allow hunting?

The Consell de Mallorca’s Island Hunting Directorate says shotgun hunting on hunting grounds is allowed on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays and national or regional public holidays. For filats a coll, the permitted days are Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and those public holidays. From 1 to 10 February, that method is allowed every day.

Hunting on open land is permitted only where the municipality has adopted the framework plan. In those areas, hunting is allowed on Thursdays and Saturdays.
