IB3 news boss picks could face binding staff review
Palma, Mallorca: a proposed law would give an IB3 news committee a binding say on plans to appoint the broadcaster’s news bosses. The PSIB, MÉS per Mallorca, Més per Menorca and Unidas Podemos lodged the bill with the Balearic Parliament on 5 November 2026. The parties say it answers a repeated call from staff representatives at the public broadcaster.
The proposed Comité de Informativos — a committee representing the people who make IB3’s news — would also work to keep reporting separate from opinion. It would help draw up style rules, examine complaints and advise staff on their professional rights and duties. The parties point to similar bodies at RTVE and other regional broadcasters.
For IB3’s audience across the Balearic Islands, the plan is intended to strengthen independent reporting. The committee would send parliament a yearly report on its work and on whether the news service had met standards including accuracy, impartiality and pluralism.
None of this is in place yet. If the bill becomes law, IB3’s governing board would set the committee’s membership and rules. The committee would then have to be formed within two months of those rules being approved.
