Iberojet launches non-stop El Salvador flights

Iberojet has started non-stop flights to San Salvador, linking El Salvador with Madrid and Barcelona. The airline operates the two weekly services with Airbus A350-900 aircraft.

The Madrid route began on Sunday at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, where an opening event was held before the first passengers boarded. After crossing the Atlantic, the inaugural flight arrived overnight at El Salvador International Airport and was greeted with a water-arch welcome.

Hours later, the first direct flight from El Salvador to Barcelona took off. The service creates a direct connection between the two cities that had not existed before.

Carlos Garrido of Ávoris, Iberojet’s owner, said the route would bring El Salvador closer to the Spanish and European market through a direct, stable link. El Salvador’s ambassador to Spain, Anabella Machuca, said it would support tourism, business and cultural exchanges.

Travelplan, Ávoris’s tour operator, already sells programmes to El Salvador. A group of Spanish travel agents travelled on the inaugural flight to San Salvador to see the country’s tourism offer and infrastructure.

Tourism Minister Morena Valdez said stronger air links could also create opportunities for businesses, entrepreneurs and communities working in tourism.
