In Spain, women make up 59% of the accommodation workforce: Iberostar is joining business group ClosinGap to help more women reach senior roles in tourism. The move was announced on 21 October 2026. Iberostar vice-chair and chief executive Sabina Fluxá will take a seat on ClosinGap’s board, while the company’s head of equity, inclusion and belonging, Marisa Fernández Corchón, will join its advisory council.

Iberostar says it wants to identify barriers that hold back women’s careers. It points to training, mentoring and internal promotions as ways to help women take on more responsibility. Through ClosinGap, it also plans to share ideas with other companies and assess its progress.

ClosinGap studies the economic cost of inequality between women and men and supports efforts to reduce it. Iberostar’s arrival brings its membership to 16 large companies operating in Spain.

The figures show why the issue matters to the industry. A Randstad Research report published in May 2026 found that women accounted for 55.1% of Spain’s hospitality workforce, rising to 59% in accommodation services.
