Iberostar wins World Economic Forum tourism award

Balearic hotel group Iberostar Hotels & Resorts wins a World Economic Forum tourism award in Geneva, with its hotel initiative named among six winners worldwide. The award was presented at a Beyond Tourism Day event. Europa Press reported it on 30 September 2026.

The forum recognised Iberostar Wave of Change, launched in 2017, for combining a workable business model with benefits for the places where the group operates. More than 30 of Iberostar’s own scientists and experts support the initiative, which brings environmental protection, economic and social development, and cultural heritage into hotel management. It also involves public authorities, businesses and local communities.

Iberostar’s head of personnel, Luis Zamora, and its head of sustainability, integration and impact, Álvaro Sánchez, accepted the award. Sánchez said the approach brings measurable savings, reduces business risks and improves guests’ holidays. At the Geneva event, the group also joined discussions about jobs and training in tourism.
