Ibiza airport: PSOE rejects more passengers

More passengers at Eivissa Airport on Ibiza are off limits, the Federación Socialista d'Eivissa (FSE-PSOE) says on Friday. It rejects any action that would increase the airport's operating capacity, air traffic or passenger numbers.

The party is backing people set to mobilise on Sunday for a different island model, calling for limits on growth and greater protection for the territory. It wants a safer, more accessible airport, but not expanded infrastructure that adds to tourist pressure.

FSE-PSOE points to a June agreement in the Joint Insularity Commission of the Congress and Senate. It says future airport plans should improve infrastructure and services without using investment to increase the island's tourist growth.

The party says the argument over overcrowding goes far beyond airport investment. Ibiza's economy cannot keep relying on unlimited growth in volume while ignoring the effects on housing, mobility and water resources, it says.

It has called on the regional government, Ibiza Island Council and town halls to take responsibility and act accordingly.
