Ibiza airport revamp: nine million-plus capacity row

In Palma on Mallorca, a plan that could give Ibiza Airport capacity for more than nine million passengers prompts a vote: a Balearic parliament committee agrees unanimously on Wednesday, 30 September, to call Aena president Maurici Lucena to explain the revamp. Airport management says increasing capacity is not its aim. But Aena’s published project papers say the works would allow capacity to rise beyond nine million passengers, according to Esquerra Unida de Balears.

Unidas Podemos proposed the hearing. Last week, the same committee agreed to hear Ibiza Airport director Marta Torres. Esquerra Unida de Balears also wants Lucena and Torres to appear before the Senate. It says the hearings should establish what Aena intends the revamp to achieve.
