Ibiza ambulances hit 53.5°C inside as union warns

Ambulances in Sant Antoni on Ibiza reach 53.5°C inside on Tuesday, 29 September, as a union warns of risks to emergency medical technicians and patients. The Unión Sindical y Técnicos Sanitarios (USAE) says the GSAIB ambulances are based at a site with no covered parking.

The heat can damage oxygen systems and equipment used to treat patients, reducing the quality of care, the union says. It also warns of heatstroke and burns from touching parts of the vehicles.

After a complaint from USAE, the Provincial Labour Inspectorate set a required temperature range of 17 to 27°C. The union is again demanding an urgent solution. It says it is “unacceptable” to keep spending time and resources reporting the same problems.
