Ibiza illegal camp grows as Vox warns of fire risk

New structures are going up at a camp in Ses Feixes des Pratet, Eivissa, according to Vox. On 16 September, the party’s municipal group at Eivissa Town Hall said residents had seen people arriving with wheelbarrows, gravel and cement sacks. Vox says the work can create new makeshift shelters within hours.

The party says the town hall has known about the camp since early June. Local Police have identified people there and used drones to assess its size, Vox said, but residents report that the camp is still growing.

Reports of threats and fire fears

Vox says people living nearby have reported threats, fights and confrontations around the camp. It also raised concerns about butane cylinders and chainsaws being used to clear vegetation for further building in an environmentally sensitive area with a high fire risk.

The party says rubbish, waste and other objects have built up around the structures. It also reports deterioration on the Can Murtera path and around Ses Feixes.

Call for more police patrols

The Can Murtera path was refurbished with public money to make it usable for pedestrians and cyclists, Vox said. The group is now calling for an immediate increase in police surveillance in Es Pratet and Ses Feixes.

It wants officers to prevent further construction while legal procedures to dismantle the camp are dealt with.
